NCAA basketball on Wednesday night and we will see the Washington State Cougars take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs at Spokane Arena, in Spokane, Washington. The game has a start time of 11:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN U. Vegas odds have the Bulldogs listed as 22 point favorites, while the total sits at 142.
Analysis: The Washington State Cougars have had a mediocre start to their year as they are just 4-4 SU and 2-6 ATS so far. The Cougars are 2-1 in neutral site games this year though. Washington State is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 vs. West Coast, but just 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 vs. West Coast and 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a S.U. win. The Cougars are mot a great offensive team, ranking 162nd in scoring (69.5 ppg), 283rd in shooting (40.4%), 199th in 3 point shooting (33.2%) and 78th in FT shooting (71.9%). The defense for this team has been awful as they come in ranked 310th in points allowed (73.9 ppg)n 230th in defensive FG% (43.7%) and 329th in 3 point defense (40%).
The Gonzaga Bulldogs come into this game at 7-1 on the year and ranked 8th in the National polls. The Zags are 2-0 on neutral courts this year and have won 12 of the last 15 meetings between these teams. Gonzaga is 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a S.U. loss and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win, but just 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 vs. Pacific-12. The Bulldogs have been strong at the offensive end of the floor this year, ranking 13th in scoring (84.9 ppg), 6th in shooting (52.8 ppg), 81st in 3 point shooting (37.7%) and 130th in FT shooting (70.2%). The defense has been solid for this team as well, ranking 55th in points allowed (59.5 ppg), 34th in defensive FG% (37%) and 90th in 3 point defense (30.5%).
Pick: Gonna go with the Under here. This really comes down to will Washington State score enough for this game to go over the total? I say no. The Cougars have scored pretty well at home, But all of that was vs very weak competition. Now they step up and play this one away from home and in all games away from home they have averaged just 61 ppg (Regulation Only). I just can't see them putting up that much in this game vs a Gonzaga team that has allowed just 57.5 ppg (Regulation) this year. The Zags will get their points and the Cougars have allowed 73.9 ppg on the year, but still I can't see the Zags putting up more than 80 here, while the Cougars will be kept in the 50s. 78-56 sounds about right.
