Analysis: The Virginia Tech Hokies played a heck of a game vs Duke on Wednesday as they took the Blue Devils to before eventually losing the game 91-86. The Hokies have now lost 4 in a row and are just 10-18 overall, which includes a mark of 0-10 in true road games for the year. The Hokies have gone 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600, but just 3-9 ATS in the last 12 meetings in Virginia. The Hokies have not been a good offensive squad this year, ranking 204th in scoring (66.6 ppg), 103rd in shooting (44.9%), 27th in 3 point shooting (39.2%) and 334th in FT shooting (62.9%). The defense for this team has been rather poor, ranking 256th in points allowed (69.0 ppg), 204th in defensive FG% (43.4%) and 164th in 3 point defense (33.8%).
The Virginia Cavaliers have won 7 games in a row since their lone loss of the year, which was to Duke. The Cavs are now at 26-1 overall and lead the ACC by 2.5 games over the Duke Blue Devils, with a 14-1 record. The Cavs have gone 23-11-2 ATS in their last 36 vs. the ACC, but just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game. The Cavaliers have not been a very good offensive team this year, ranking 209th in scoring (66.0 ppg), 64th in shooting (46.1%), 116th in 3 point shooting (35.6%) and 63rd in FT shooting (72.1%). Defensively the Cavs have been excellent this year, ranking 1st in points allowed (49.9 ppg), 2nd in defensive FG% (35.3%) and 20th in 3 point defense (29.9%).
Pick: I will go with the Hokies here. The Cavs have not been a great point spread team of late as they have gone just 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games and they will be taking on a Virginia Tech squad that has been playing much better as the season has gone on. The Hokies lost by just 3 points earlier in the year vs the Cavaliers and they are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 games overall. Virginia just blew out Wake Forest, but this is not a team that has been able to do that very much of late and In don't see them doing it here either.
