Wednesday night college basketball and we will see the San Diego State Aztecs travel to the Thomas & Mack Center to take on the UNLV Runnin Rebels. The game has a start time of 11:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on CBSSN. Current Vegas betting odds have the Aztecs listed as 4 point favorites, while the total is set at 114.
Analysis: The San Diego State Aztecs have lost just twice in their last 9 games, but both losses have been to Boise State, with that last loos to the bulldogs snapping the Aztecs 41 game home winning streak. Thanks to Saturday's loss to the Bulldogs, San Diego State in now in 2nd place in the MWC with a 12-4 mark. The Aztecs have gone 42-20-2 ATS in their last 64 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600, but just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Aztecs have been a poor offensive team this year, ranking 296th in scoring (62.3 ppg), 264th in shooting (41.9%), 288th in 3 point shooting (31.4%) and 337th in FT shooting (62.8%). Defensively the Aztecs have been very good as they come in ranked 3rd in points allowed (53.6 ppg), 6th in defensive FG% (37.6%) and 11th in 3 point defense (29.1%).
The UNLV Rebels come in off a big 69-57 home win over Wyoming, but still the Rebels have won just 3 of their last 7 games and will need to win the MWC Tournament if they hope to be in the big dance this year. The Rebels have gone 7-2 ATS in their last 9 vs. the Mountain West, but just 7-20-1 ATS the last 28 games in the series. The Rebels have been an average offensive team this year, as they come in ranked 148th in scoring (68.6 ppg), 127th in shooting (44.3%), 77th in 3 point shooting (36.7%) and 249th in FT shooting (67.0%). Defensively the Rebels have been decent as they come in ranked 141st in points allowed (65.3 ppg), 47th in defensive FG% (39.7%) and 192nd in 3 point defense (34.2%).
Pick: I will be going with the Under in this one. The Rebels try an run, but the Aztecs won't let them. They get back very well on defense and then on offense the Aztecs play at a snails pace. The Rebels are a terrible shooting team and the Aztecs are a great defensive team that is 3rd in points allowed and 6th in defensive FG% this year. Hard to see UNLV getting much in this one. San Diego State is not a very good offensive team. They do shot the ball well, but also play very slow and don't take man shots during the game and UNLV has allowed just 60.4 ppg at home. The first meeting this year put up just 100 points and while this one will be higher scoring than that I still don't expect more than 115 points in this one.
