College Basketball Betting Odds Houston Cougars vs Tulsa Golden Hurricane Free Pick

Tonight the Houston Cougars will take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the Quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament which will take place at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. The game has a start time of 7:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN U. Current Vegas betting odds have the Golden Hurricane listed as 9 point favorites, while the total is set at 124.5.

Analysis:  At one point this year the Houston Cougars had lost 14 of 16 games, but they have been hot since that stretch as they have now won 4 games in a row, including a 66-60 opening round win over Tulane yesterday. For the year now the Cougars have gone just 13-18. Houston has gone 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win, but 0-5 ATS the last 5 in the series. The Cougars have not been a very good offensive team this year, ranking 241st in scoring (64.8 ppg), 331st in shooting (39.4%), 267th in 3 point shooting (32.3%) and 219th in FT shooting (68.1%). Defensively the Cougars have been rather average this year, ranking 150th in points allowed (65.7 ppg), 193rd in defensive FG% (43.4%) and 145th in 3 point defense (33.6%).

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane had a grasp on the top spot of the AAC standings for much of the year, but back to back season ending losses to Cincinnati and SMU handed the Mustangs the regular season title and dropped Tulsa to the 2nd seed in the AAC tournament. The Hurricane have now gone 21-9 on the year. Tulsa has gone 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record. The Golden Hurricane have been a below average offensive team this year, ranking 234th in scoring (65.2 ppg), 259th in shooting (42.1%), 227th in 3 point shooting (33.1%) and 323rd in FT shooting (64.4%). Defensively Tulsa has been very good this year, ranking 40th in points allowed (60.5 ppg), 33rd in defensive FG% (39.5%) and 105th in 3 point defense (32.8%).

Pick: Both teams really slow it down on offense and Tulsa has played great defense this year, while the Cougars have really turned it up on that end of the floor of late. Tulsa comes in allowing just 57.8 ppg in their last 5 games, while the Cougars have given up just 59.6 ppg in their last 5. Houston can't score away from home, averaging just 60 ppg away from home, while Tulsa has put up just 63.4 ppg away from home and just 62.8 ppg in their last 5 overall. Both teams have really been relying on their defenses to win games and I expect that here as well.
