Tonight the Colorado Buffaloes will take on the Oregon State Beavers in the 1st round of the Pac-12 Tournament, which will be held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas Nevada. The game has a start time of 9:10 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on the Pac-12 Network. Current Vegas betting odds have the Buffaloes listed as 3.5 point favorites, while the total is set at 117.
Analysis: The Colorado Buffaloes did finish the year by winning 2 of their last 3 games, but overall this has not been a good season for the Buffs as they have gone just 14-16 overall, including 7-11 in the Pac-12. Colorado has gone just 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 neutral site games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. The Buffs have been a very average offensive team, as they come in ranked 169th in scoring (67.7 ppg), 197th in shooting (43.2%), 189th in 3 point shooting (43.1%) and 108th in FT shooting (70.9%). Defensively the Buffaloes have been average as well this year, ranking 174th in points allowed (66.8 ppg), 110th in defensive FG% (41.6%) and 213th in 3 point defense (34.8%).
The Oregon State Beavers have really struggled down the stretch as they have won just 1 of their final 7 games. Overall the Beavers have gone 17-13 on the year, which includes an 8-10 mark in the Pac-12, plus they have gone just 2-11 in all games away from home. The Beavers have gone 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record, but just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 vs the Pac-12. The Beavers have not been a poor offensive team this year, as they come in ranked 324th in scoring (60.5 ppg), 244th in shooting (42.2%), 274th in 3 point shooting (32.0%) and 1645th in FT shooting (69.5%). Defensively the Beavers have been excellent as they come in ranked 16th in points allowed (58.5 ppg), 9th in defensive FG% (38.2%) and 20th in 3 point defense (30.0%).
Pick: I will look at the Over in this game. The Beavers play a slow brand of ball and they play excellent defense, but still the only meeting between these teams put up 130 points this year. Oregon State's last 4 games have averaged 127.3 ppg and 6 of their last 7 games have put up at least 123 points. For Colorado Just 2 of their last 17 Pac-12 games have been played under 120 points and both those games were vs Washington, while their last 6 games in regulation have averaged 138.7 ppg. The Beavers are not a good offensive team, but they did score 72 points in their meeting this year and the Buffaloes have allowed 72 ppg in their last 6 games in Regulation. This is a very low number because of the pace of play that the Beavers employ, but its should also be a close game which should mean FTs at the end and don't be surprised if the game goes to OT.Both teams want to move on and I see the offenses having a better than expected showing in this one.
