Chiefs vs Eagles NFL Thursday Night Football Odds

Andy Reid makes his return to Philadelphia tomorrow night has his Kansas City Chiefs square off against the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Tomorrow's much anticipated meeting between the Chiefs and Eagles is scheduled to kickoff at 8:25pm ET on the NFL Network. The latest NFL Thursday Night Football Odds have Philadelphia listed as a -3 against the spread home favorite and the Over/Under set at 50.5 points. Kansas City is drawing +150 money line odds ($100 wins $150) to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Everyone expected Andy Reid to get the Chiefs headed in the right direction and he has done that through two games as KC matched last year's win total with a 17-16 win over the Cowboys on Sunday.

Unlike the Chiefs season opening blowout of the hapless Jaguars, their win over Dallas was not pretty, but it did showcase the team's strength. Kansas City's defense, which held Jacksonville to 178 total yards, also kept the more potent Cowboys in check.

Dallas, which converted just 3-of-11 on third down, finished the game with 318 total yards and it averaged a meager 2.3 yards per carry against the Chiefs formidable front seven. The only real threat from the Cowboys offense was Dez Bryant (nine catches, 141 yards, one touchdown), but KC's ability to stonewall the rest of the unit made up for his big day.

The Chiefs will face another stiff challenge tomorrow in the Eagles hurry up offense. Through two games Chip Kelly's vaunted offensive approach has produced 63 points and 954 yards; however, Philadelphia saw its record fall to 1-1 on Sunday as its defense faltered against a surprisingly game Chargers squad.

San Diego moved the ball at will against the Eagles, posting 33 first downs (10-for-15 on third down) and 539 yards. Philip Rivers looked as though he had discovered the Fountain of Youth, throwing for 419 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.

While KC's offense may lack some of the explosive elements the Chargers bring to the table (i.e. a mid-range/downfield passing attack), it has been incredibly efficient through two games. Alex Smith and company have yet to turn the ball over and they have converted on all five of their red zone opportunities.

Philadelphia has at least one big advantage here, though, or so it would seem. The Eagles fast break offense should be able to put points on the board against a traveling team off short rest. However, home field on a Thursday night may not be all its cracked up to be. Since the 2000 season away teams playing on a Thursday with a line within 3.5 points of pick'em and coming off a home win are 13-6 straight up and 12-6-1 against the spread. If those away teams are coming off a home win and an away win prior to that, as KC is this week, their record during that span improves to 5-0 straight up and 4-1 against the spread (courtesy of Dr. Meyer's SDQL).

That would indicate host teams playing on a Thursday night have been overvalued in the past and that could well be the case tomorrow night.

Chiefs vs Eagles NFL Thursday Night Football Odds:

Kansas City Chiefs +3 (+100), Over 50.5 (-110), +150 (Moneyline)

Philadelphia Eagles -3 (-120), Under 50.5 (-110), -170 (Moneyline)
