The spirited rivalry between Iowa and Iowa State continues this afternoon as the two schools meet at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City (3:30pm ET start time, Big Ten Network). The latest Iowa State at Iowa Odds is favoring the Hawkeyes in today’s match-up as they are giving 3.5 points to the visiting Cyclones. Iowa suffered through its worst season since 2007 last year, finishing up with a 7-6 record after falling to Oklahoma in the Insight Bowl, and it created questions about this year’s prospects after slipping past Northern Illinois 18-17 in last weekend’s season opener.

The Hawkeyes trailed 12-17 late in the fourth quarter, but a 23 yard touchdown run from Damon Bullock at the 2:15 mark assured Iowa the victory. Despite controlling the clock for 38:42 in their battle with the Huskies, the Hawkeyes amassed a meager 268 total yards in their first outing under the direction of new offensive coordinator Greg Davis (Texas).

The performance left many wondering if Iowa will be able to maintain its current four game win streak over the Cyclones at Kinnick Stadium. While Iowa State is not known for its football prowess, its head coach, Paul Rhoads, is well respected for his ability to get the most out of his teams.

Rhodes’ troops, who beat a quality Tulsa squad 38-23 in last week’s opener, could have their best opportunity in quite some time to pull off a surprise at Iowa. The Cyclones have consistently earned the cover in this series (6-1 against the spread in the last seven at Kinnick and 7-3 opposite the number in the last 10 overall), as well as the occasional win in Ames (won 44-41 last season in front of the home crowd), but they have not turned back the Hawkeyes in Iowa City since earning a 36-31 victory in 2002.
