The college football season gets underway on Friday when the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors take on theCalifornia Golden Bears. The game is scheduled for a 10:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the betting odds for the game have California listed as a massive favoriteto pick up the win.

This game is being played at ANZ Stadium in Sydney, Australia to open the beginning of the college football season. The game will be the first college football game played in Australia since BYU beat Colorado State 30-26 back in 1987. That game had less than 8,000 people in attendance, but officials are expecting somewhere around 65,000 patrons for this contest.
This will be the seventh straight season Hawaii has played a Pac 12 opponent to start the season. The previous six games have seen the Rainbow Warriors go 2-4 and it doesn’t bode well for them to pick up a third win in this one.
California welcomes in Texas Tech transfer Davis Webb at quarterback to help replace No. 1 overall NFL draft pick Jared Goff. Webb played in 23 games during his time in Lubbock, starting 14 games and throwing for better than 5,550 yards and 46 touchdowns. Webb should be able to flourish in Sonny Dykes’ system, which saw Cal put up 38 points per game on average each of the last two seasons.
There will be a lot of travel for both California and Hawaii here, but the Golden Bears have the benefit of not playing in the second week of the season. Hawaii, on the other hand, has to play at Michigan just a week later. They have a pretty solid back in Paul Harris, who eclipsed 1,100 yards on the ground last season. He’s not going to be enough for Hawaii, who is now coached by former Rainbow Warrior quarterback Nick Rolovich.
