The Boston Red Sox are traveling to take on the Cleveland Indians tonight in Game 1 of their American League Division Series matchup. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on TBS. The Cleveland Indians had a fantastic season, but after all the hard work and winning an AL Central title, the prize is a first-round matchup with the Boston Red Sox. Both teams finished as the tops in the AL in wins this season, which should make this one of the better opening round series here in the playoffs.
Rick Porcello is starting tonight for the Red Sox. He piled up 22 wins this season, which was the most of any pitcher in baseball. Porcello tossed 223 innings as well, providing the Red Sox with a workhorse while allowing just 78 earned runs all season. Porcello has really showcased himself as a legitimate front line guy.
So far this season Porcello made one start against the Indians, a 5-2 victory back in May where he surrendered two earned runs in almost six innings of work. Many of the Indians have faced Porcello spanning from his time with the Detroit Tigers, they own an average of .290 over 238 at bats. Carlos Santana owns three bombs over Ricky P and has a team-high 12 hits as well.
The Indians are sending Trevor Bauer to the hill, obviously they would have wanted Corey Kluber or Danny Salazar or even Carlos Carrasco to make this start, but alas, this is what they have to go with. Bauer went 12-8 with a 4.26 ERA on the campaign but his numbers were better in road starts this season.
Bauer threw twice against Boston this season covering six innings where he allowed six earned runs.
Boston is hot and their lineup should be good enough to get to Bauer tonight.
