The Boston Celtics close out a three game road stand tonight with a showdown against a tough Memphis Grizzlies squad. This evening’s clash between the Celtics and Grizzlies has a scheduled start time of 8:00pm ET at the FedEX Forum. Boston suffered its third consecutive loss last night, falling 104-94 at Dallas. The Celtics lost a half game to the Bulls in the Eastern Conference standings and they are just two games ahead of the eighth seeded Bucks as a result of last night’s setback. Should Boston fall any further, it could be looking at a first round series with the Heat in the NBA Playoffs.
The Celtics, who downed 25-of-27 from the free throw line in the loss to the Mavericks, will take the court of the third time in four nights this evening. That does not bode well for them given the age of their two stars, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.
What also does not bode well for Boston’s chances at victory is its opponent. Memphis is coming off an unlikely 90-83 road loss at New Orleans, but it scored home wins over Minnesota and Oklahoma City prior to last night’s slip up against the Hornets.
The Grizzlies are one of the top home teams in the league as evidenced by their 27-8 record at the FedEX Forum. Memphis, which is 2-1 in its last three meetings with Boston, has not lost at home since February 5th (Suns 96-90). However, that contest marked the Grizzlies second game following the Rudy Gay trade to Toronto.
Notable Trends: The Celtics are 0-5 straight up and 1-4 against the spread in their last five games as a road dog against a Southwest opponent with a spread between 8 and 10.5 points. Boston is 1-5 both straight up and against the spread over the last five years playing as a six to nine point road dog in the second of back to back games and coming off a loss.
