Paul Rhoads Iowa State Cyclones will attempt to overcome last Thursday's gut wrenching loss to Texas when they meet No. 20 Texas Tech on Saturday in Lubbock. Kickoff in this weekend's battle between the Cyclones and Red Raiders is set for 12:00pm ET at Jones AT&T Stadium; the game will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1. Iowa State Head Coach Paul Rhoads made it clear after his team lost 31-30 to Texas in Ames last Thursday night that he felt the officials took the game from the Cyclones. Certainly Rhoads had reason to question the non-fumble call that would have resulted in his team winning the game, but the loss had more to do with his team's inability to prevent big plays.

The Cyclones gave up a 45 yard touchdown run in the first quarter, a 44 yard touchdown pass in the second, and they were flagged for two pass interference penalties and a face mask penalty on the Longhorns game winning drive.

Iowa State will need to correct those issues if it wants to keep pace with the Red Raiders this weekend.

Texas Tech was sort of a Big 12 afterthought when the season kicked off, but it is drawing some attention now and for good reason. The Red Raiders, now 20th in the AP Poll, are 5-0 overall and 2-0 in league play after securing wins over SMU, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, Texas State, and Kansas.

Tech won its first five games by an average of 28 points per contest and it has scored 33 or more points in each of its outings with the exception of the TCU game.

The Red Raiders dug a 0-10 hole in last weekend's meeting with the Jayhawks, but they headed into the break with a 20-10 advantage. Texas Tech outscored Kansas 34-6 in the second half to win the game 54-16.

While the Iowa State name may not induce a great deal of fear, the Cyclones do pose a much bigger threat than the Jayhawks. Tech knows this first hand as Iowa State has won two of the last three meetings between these conference rivals, including the last get together in Lubbock (41-7, 2011).
