The Iowa State Cyclones welcome in the TCU Horned Frogs in Big 12 College Basketball today. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPNu. Currently the Betting Odds for the game have the Cyclones favored by a comfortable margin in this one.
Iowa State has been a very good team in home games this season, beating up on everyone that comes to Ames. Fred Hoiberg's team has gotten as highly ranked as ninth this season, but a recent loss on the road to Big 12 bottom feeder Texas Tech had the Cyclones fall several spots in the rankings. Fellow Big 12 cellar dweller TCU is in town today to take on Iowa State.
Will the Cyclones get caught looking ahead to Monday's class at Kansas? Iowa State beat the Jayhawks a couple of weeks ago inside their own building, but traveling to play in Phog Allen is never an easy task.
TCU nearly beat Kansas themselves in their last game, falling to the Jayhawks by just three points on Wednesday. The Horned Frogs were able to out-score Kansas by three points in the second half to make that game pretty close throughout. Kyan Anderson leads the team in scoring at nearly 14 points per game, but he should be neutralized today by a solid Iowa State defense that looks to turn teams over, get out in transition and score quick buckets.
So far this season Iowa State is pouring in an average of 84 points per game at home, holding opponents to just 67.5 points while winning all 11 of their games. Georges Niang is a potential player of the year candidate in the conference and along with Bryce Dejean-Jones gives the Cyclones a pair of players that can put up big numbers today.
But will TCU be able to hang around? Iowa State's played seven games in the conference so far and those games were decided by just 24 total points. Certainly the Big 12 has been the best overall conference to this point in the season and Iowa State is one of the best in the league. Hoiberg needs to have his team focused on not having a poor start. If the Cyclones struggle at the beginning yet again, TCU could continue to gain confidence and potentially cause problems for Iowa State.
Iowa State can't struggle early or get caught looking ahead.
