The Kansas Jayhawks will look to tighten their strangle hold on the Big 12 when they host the Oklahoma Sooners at Allen Fieldhouse this afternoon. Start time in today’s meeting between the Jayhawks and Sooners is set for 4:00pm ET; the game will be broadcast live on ESPN. Kansas recorded its 16th straight win on Tuesday night, slipping past the 11th ranked Kansas State Wildcats 59-55 at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan. The Jayhawks offensive effort was not overly impressive as only three players, including leading scorer Ben McLemore, tallied double figures; however, their defense made up for any offensive shortcomings.
Kansas held the Wildcats to 35.1 percent field goal shooting while limiting Kansas State’s Rodney McGruder to 13 points.
The Jayhawks will look to do the same to the Sooners tonight in an effort to stay undefeated in conference play (5-0) and, perhaps, jump to No. 1 in the Coaches Poll. Oklahoma, which sits second in the Big 12 standings with a 4-1 league record, is seeking its 14th win of the season.
The Sooners bounced back from a 69-60 loss at Kansas State with a 73-67 home win over Texas last Friday. Oklahoma’s leading scorer, senior forward Romero Osby, was a one man wrecking crew against the Longhorns as he finished the game with 29 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.
Kansas, which is 10-0 at home, has won its last nine games against Oklahoma and it leads the series 138-64. The Jayhawks are 42-7 all-time against the Sooners at Allen Fieldhouse and they have never lost a home game to OU since the Big 8 became the Big 12.
