College football week 10 and the Northwestern Wildcats will travel to Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. The game has a start time of 12:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Current Vegas odds have the Hawkeyes listed as 4 point favorites, while the total is set at 42.
Analysis: The Northwestern Wildcats have not had a good year so far as they are 3-4 overall and 2-2 within the Big 10. The Cats had won 3 in a row before losing their last 2 games to Minnesota and Nebraska. Northwestern is 17-2 ATS before they take on Michigan, but they are also just 3-14 ATS in their last 17 games overall and 2-12 ATS in their last 14 games following a SU loss of more than 20 points. This is not a good offensive team as they come in ranked 108th in total yards, 76th in passing, 103rd in rushing and 109th in scoring (20.9 ppg). On the defensive side of the ball they come in ranked 54th in yards allowed, 52nd vs the pass, 64th vs the run and 23rd in points allowed (20.4 ppg).
The Iowa Hawkeyes come in with a solid 5-2 record on the year, which includes a 3-1 record at home and a 2-1 mark in the Big 10, which currently has them in a 2nd place tie with the Wisconsin Badgers in the West division. The Hawkeyes are 39-18-1 ATS in their last 58 games following a S.U. loss, but they are also 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game. Iowa is a below average team that ranks 81st in total offense, 58th in passing, 87th in rushing and 85th in scoring (27.0 ppg). Defensively this team is very solid, ranking 30th in yards allowed, 27th vs the pass 42nd vs the run and 33rd in points allowed (21.9 ppg).
Pick: Plenty of money has come in on the Cats, but I will go the other way. Iowa has had an up and down year, but they are still 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Big 10. Northwestern has lost 2 in a row, while Iowa has won 3 of their last 4 and the home team is 4-0 ATS the last 4 in the series. Yes the Cats are 17-2 ATS before playing the Wolverines, but I just feel that Iowa is playing much better right now and they are at home off a bye week. Hawkeyes by a TD here.
