The Belmont Stakes is the third leg of the horse racing triple crown and it takes place today. The Belmont Stakes Start Time is set for 6:36 p.m. and it will be televised nationally on NBC. Currently the Belmont Stakes Odds have California Chrome, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner, listed to pick up a win.

The race is open to 3-year-old thoroughbreds that weight 126 pounds and will run the 1.5-mile course. The Belmont Stakes is the third and final leg of the US Triple Crown, following exactly five weeks after the Kentucky Derby, and three weeks after the Preakness Stakes. Like the first two legs of the Triple Crown this race is run on Saturday, but never before June 5, nor after June 11. It is nicknamed "The Test of the Champion" and the horse racing world is hoping that California Chrome can become that champion and win the first Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978.

And although California Chrome is going to be drawing the most attention in this race because of the Triple Crown possibility, don't overlook the rest of the field. Both Commanding Curve, which finished second in the Kentucky Derby and Ride On Curlin, which finished second in the Preakness, are being projected to run in this field on Saturday.
