The Belmont Stakes is the third leg of the horse racing triple crown and it takes place today. The Belmont Stakes Start Time is set for 6:50 p.m. and it will be televised nationally on NBC. Currently the Belmont Stakes Odds have American Pharoah, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner, listed to pick up a win as a massive favorite.
American Pharoah will look to become the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the Triple Crown. California Chrome gave it a really good run last year after winning the opening two legs of horse racing's biggest prize, but finished in a tie for fourth place with Wicked Strong as Tonalist picked up the 2014 Belmont Stakes win.
A total of 11 horses ran in last year's event, this year will only see eight horses race. Todd Pletcher horses Materiality and Madefromlucky are both considered to be contenders in this year's Belmont Stakes, Frosted is the other horse that is drawing single digit odds along with Materiality and American Pharoah.
The updated odds are courtesy of BelmontStakes.com and are current as of 11 a.m. Saturday.

Beating the Belmont for Beginners
Steve Fezzik and Teddy Covers are pro bettors, but both admit they aren't much for horse racing betting. They say that isn't a requirement to bet the Belmont though. Since American Pharoah is going for the Triple Crown, something we haven't seen since Affirmed in 1978, simply bet the field to win and you'll succeed. There have been 12 Triple Crown Contenders in the past 20 years and none of them have won, so the guys are more than comfortable to take the "no-win" bet on American Pharoah. Avoid the media hype about the special horse, there are too many horse "assassins" in the field and history shows it is a bad bet.
