Belmont Stakes Contenders Mubtaahij Betting Odds

The 147th Belmont Stakes takes place this Saturday at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The Belmont Stakes official start time is 6:50 pm ET. There are several Contenders in the event, including Mubtaahij, who has been installed as 10/1 Odds to win the race.

Mubtaahij's Record: 4-1-0 in 8 Races. Trainer: Mike de Kock. Jockey: Irad Ortiz, Jr. Sire: Dubawi. Dam: Pennegale. Best Beyer Speed: N/A

Mubtaahij has drawn the 1st slot at the gate and is trained by Mike De Kock, who comes in with just 10 career starts and has just 1 win of those starts. Mike is an eight times National Champion Trainer in South Africa and has won every major race in his country of birth at least once. He’s won races on four continents in places like England, the USA, Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai.

Mubtaahij will be ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr, who has compiled 926 wins in his career, including 109 this year. Ortiz was the leading rider on the New York Racing Association circuit in 2014 with 278 wins, and will be making his second appearance in the Belmont Stakes, having finished fourth aboard Incognito in 2013. Ortiz is quickly emerging as one of the best young riders in the nation.

Mubtaahij had never run on an american track until the Kentucky Derby and he finished 8th in that race. International horses do tend to fare well over lengthy races, and the Belmont is akin to a marathon at 1 ½ miles. Mubtaahij sat out the Preakness and will make his second American start with a new jockey up top, but i don't feel that the extra rest will help this horse all that much, even though these foreign horse do fare better on longer tracks. 5th or worse for this horse.

Movie
Beating the Belmont for Beginners
Steve Fezzik and Teddy Covers are pro bettors, but both admit they aren't much for horse racing betting. They say that isn't a requirement to bet the Belmont though. Since American Pharoah is going for the Triple Crown, something we haven't seen since Affirmed in 1978, simply bet the field to win and you'll succeed. There have been 12 Triple Crown Contenders in the past 20 years and none of them have won, so the guys are more than comfortable to take the "no-win" bet on American Pharoah. Avoid the media hype about the special horse, there are too many horse "assassins" in the field and history shows it is a bad bet.
