Oxbow, the winner of the Preakness Stakes, is one of the major contenders for today's 2013 Belmont Stakes. The third and final leg of horse racing's Triple Crown will take place later today at at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. While their isn't a horse running for horse racing glory in the Belmont Stakes, it certainly still will be a race to remember. The 2013 Belmont Stakes Odds for Oxbow are listed at 5-1 to win the race.
Oxbow was one of the horses that ran in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. It will start from the seventh post position in the Belmont Stakes and riding on top will be Gary Stevens. Oxbow is a Calumet Farm horse that was trained by D. Wayne Lukas, who also trained Will Take Charge that is running in the race as well.
The 5-1 odds on Oxbow make the horse the second best according to the odds. Currently Orb is drawing the best number at 3-1 to win the race. Oxbow was very impressive a few weeks ago in Baltimore, crushing the dreams of all horse racing fans by not allowing Orb to potentially win the Triple Crown. Yet in this race both are expected to finish the race in the top spots.
Jockey Gary Stevens returns to the saddle after sitting out since 2005. He currently has three wins at the Belmont Stakes and oddsmakers believe he's got a great chance to pick up his fourth career win in the race.
Oxbow is the most-experienced Belmont Stakes contender with 11 career starts under his belt. He's won three of those races, including the Preakness and the Grade 3 LeComte.
