The Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees conclude their three game set in the Big Apple today with a 1:05pm ET showdown at Yankee Stadium. This afternoon’s finale between the Orioles and Yankees will be broadcast live on TBS. The Yankees earned their sixth consecutive win and a series victory over Baltimore yesterday with a 5-4 defeat of the Orioles. New York moved into second place in the AL East as a result of the win and it improved its home record to 25-18 on the year.

The Yankees, who had dropped five straight prior to their current run, will take aim at their first sweep of the Orioles since April of last year with Hiroki Kuroda on the hill. Kuroda, who is taking the place of Phil Hughes (will start Monday’s series opener against the Royals), brings a 7-6 record, 2.95 ERA, and 1.06 WHIP into today’s start, but he has not performed well in his last two appearances against Baltimore.

Kuroda notched a complete game shutout of the Orioles in mid-April, but he is 0-2 opposite Baltimore since, giving up 15 hits and nine earned runs over eight innings of work.

Countering Kuroda for the Orioles, who fell to 48-40 with yesterday’s loss, is 30 year old right hander Jason Hammel. Hammel owns an ugly 5.19 ERA and he has given up four or more earned runs in three of his last four starts, including his last one, a 2-5 loss to the White Sox in which he allowed nine hits and five earned runs over seven innings.

Baltimore has been a victim of Hammel’s recent struggles, posting an 0-6 record in his last six appearances. The Orioles are 0-3 in Hammel’s last three road starts, losing by an average of 1.7 runs per game.

Notable Trends: The Orioles are 1-7 in their last eight games as a road dog with a total between 8.5 and 9 runs.
