Free Analysis: Neither the Baltimore Orioles nor the New York Yankees were able to gain the upper hand during the regular season as the American League East rivals split their 18-game season series. Nothing has been resolved thus far in their AL Division Series as each club has won a pair of contests, setting up Game Five at Yankee Stadium on Friday to decide who will face the Detroit Tigers in the AL Championship Series. After a crushing extra-inning loss on Wednesday, Baltimore staved off elimination in Game 4 on Thursday, as J.J. Hardy's RBI double in the 13th inning lifted the Orioles to a 2-1 victory. Nate McLouth hit his first career postseason homer in the win, while Jim Johnson pitched a perfect 13th to record his second save of the series. Making his first start since Sept. 11 and third since July 13 due to problems with his knee, Hammel pitched as well as could be expected in the series opener, limiting New York to two runs and four hits over 5 2/3 innings. The 30-year-old went 0-1 with a 3.94 ERA in three starts against the Yankees during the regular season, including a no-decision on Sept. 6 in which he yielded one run over five frames. Hammel is 1-3 with 5.86 ERA in 15 career games against the Yankees, including nine starts. New York should have an edge on Friday with lefty CC Sabathia on the hill. Sabathia was brilliant in his Game 1 win, allowing two runs and eight hits in 8 2/3 innings. He also struck out seven and walked a batter in his third straight win overall. Sabathia is 6-1 with a 3.29 ERA in 11 playoff starts with New York, but has pitched to a 4.56 ERA in 17 career postseason outings.  Sabathia has dominated the Orioles over his career as he's posted a 17-4 record and 3.07 ERA in 26 outings.

Including San Francisco and Detroit's wins on Thursday, there have been 18 Division Series Game 5s and 11 have been won by the road team. Six of those 11 wins have come in the AL. Of the last 13 opening-round series to go to a Game 5, the home team has won only two of those contests.

Free Pick: Going to go with the Under in this one. It's game 5 and both teams should be tight offensively. Tight or not they haven't really been scoring that much anyway as just 13 totals runs have been scored in the last 3 games combined. Now tight offenses will be facing some solid pitching. Jason Hammel comes in with a solid 2.51 ERA and he hasn't allowed more than 2 ER's in any of his last 4 starts, including game 1 of this series when he allowed just 2 ER's in 5.2 innings of work. CC Sabathia also comes in a fine fashion as he has a 2.19 ERA and an 0.91 WHIP in his last 3 starts, while not allowing more than 2 ER's in each of his last 4 starts. CC has pitched well at home with a 2.69 ERA and he also has a solid 3.03 ERA at night on the year. Both teams will look to play this one close to the vest and that should equal a low scoring game.
