The Clemson Tigers will look to continue flying high in 2012 with a matchup against the Ball State Cardinals today. The game is scheduled for a 12:30 pm start time and it will be televised on the ACC Network. The Tigers are favored by four touchdowns in this contest, which looks to oddsmakers to be a blowout.
Clemson enters their second game of the season against Ball State fresh off a win over Auburn in Atlanta. Today their opponent is Ball State and the two schools haven't met since the 2002 season, when the Tigers were favored by 27 points. Clemson has won both games all-time against Ball State. Last year the Tigers finished with a 7-0 record in Death Valley and gave up an average of just under 26 points per game.
Star wide receiver Sammy Watkins isn't going to play today, serving a two-game suspension for a drug arrest. However, it seemed as though Andre Ellington and quarterback Tajh Boyd took care of business without him last week when they beat Auburn. DeAndre Hopkins stepped up nicely, catching a school record 13 passes last week.
Ball State beat Eastern Michigan last week in a high-scoring game. They'll look to break the streak of Clemson's eight years in a row of winning their home opener by at least 20 points. On the other hand, they have lost 15 years in a row in their road openers to BCS schools. By an average of 24 points per game. Ouch. Good news for bettors? They were 9-6 against the number in those games. Ball State had 36 first downs and nearly 600 yards of total offense in their win last week against Eastern Michigan.
Free Pick: Not really sure this is anything more than a paycheck for Ball State. They know they probably can't win this came in Clemson and the Tigers are clearly a Top 10 level team. We think this is going to hover right around the four touchdown mark. The last time these two teams played Clemson won 30-7. Expect the same type of score in this game today.
