The oddsmakers are making Li Na the favorite here for a number of reasons. She's the fourth ranked player in the world, already has a Grand Slam to her event and is an excellent hard courts player. Li Na dodged a lot of bullets to reach this year's final, as the 24th-ranked Cibulkova will be her first Top-25 opponent this tournament. The 31-year-old has a golden opportunity to win her second major title here tonight.
Cibulkova is a great friend to Marion Bartoli, who shocked the world last year by winning the Wimbledon championship. Then, she decided to retire from the game of tennis. We aren't saying Cibulkova would take a bow if she were to win the tournament, but picking up a major title when no one expected her to certainly seems fitting for the comparison.
And Cibulkova has been a giant killer to this point in the tournament. She knocked off Maria Sharapova, Simona Halep and Agnieszka Radwanska on her way to the finals. This is Li Na's third Australian Open final in the last four years but this is first time she’s the heavy favorite. Lifetime Li Na is 4-0 against Cibulkova, including a straight-set hardcourt win at the 2013 Rogers Cup last August.
We like Li Na to pick up a win in three sets here tonight, but it's not going to be an easy match.
