Arkansas posted its first 11 win season since 1977 last year, but unfortunately for the Razorbacks they played in the same division as Alabama and LSU. The latest Arkansas Razorbacks 2013 BCS National Championship Odds reflect that same dilemma for this season’s Hog team. The Razorbacks are drawing 18-1 odds to win the National Championship, 13-2 odds to win the SEC, and 7-2 odds to capture the SEC West Division title. In each of those cases they play second fiddle to the Crimson Tide and Tigers.
Despite a tremendous 2011 season, one which featured 11 wins and a Cotton Bowl victory over Kansas State, Arkansas’ offseason was one of turmoil. Head Coach Bobby Petrino was fired when a motorcycle crash revealed an inappropriate relationship with an assistant nearly 30 years his junior. The university moved to keep some continuity by naming former special teams coordinator (2009-2011) John L. Smith its new head coach.
Smith, who has held head coaching positions at Utah State, Idaho, Weber State, Michigan State, and Louisville, will inherit a talent laden roster that returns 15 starters, including quarterback Tyler Wilson and running back Knile Davis.
The Razorbacks schedule is not an enviable one; however, they do play host to Alabama and LSU in addition to Kentucky and Ole Miss. Arkansas’ conference road slate features difficult, but winnable games at Texas A&M, Auburn, South Carolina, and Mississippi State.
Arkansas Razorbacks 2012 Schedule: 9/1 Jacksonville State, 9/8 at Louisiana-Monroe, 9/15 Alabama, 9/22 Rutgers, 9/29 at Texas A&M, 10/6 at Auburn, 10/13 Kentucky, 10/27 Ole Miss, 11/3 Tulsa, 11/10 at South Carolina, 11/17 at Mississippi State, 11/24 LSU
