Argentina vs Nigeria 2014 World Cup Odds — Argentina favored to win

Argentina vs. Iran: World Cup Group F Score, Grades and Post-Match Reaction

Argentina has already qualified for the Round of 16 in this World Cup yet, but they are still looking to clinch that top overall spot in the group with a win over Nigeria. The World Cup Odds for the match have Argentina as the big favorites to win, but favorites all the same.

Argentina vs Nigeria 2014 World Cup Odds

Argentina -1 -130 -220  (straight-up victory)
Nigeria +1 +110 +750 (straight-up victory)

Argentina got a present when Lionel Messi scored to beat Iran in stoppage time during the last game. That allowed the Argentines to qualify for the Round of 16 and gives them nothing really to play for in this game. However, they certainly want to at least pick up a point here. Nigeria has four points while Argentina sits with six, meaning Nigeria could pass them for the top overall spot in the group. If Nigeria is able to win this match today, Argentina could then end up playing France in their opening match.

Certainly Argentina doesn't want that to happen. If they can pick up a win in this contest, they will more than likely play either Ecuador or Switzerland in the opening round.

Nigeria SHOULD make it to the next round, but if Iran is able to beat up on Bosnia and catch them in goal differential, the Nigerians will not be happy. They will look to play for a victory but would certainly welcome a draw here. That would put them one point ahead of Iran, no matter how many goals they are able to score on Bosnia.

Both Argentina and Nigeria have some similarities. They were placed together in the 1994, 2002 and 2010 World Cup group stage and also played in the 1995 Confederations Cup and two friendlies in 2011. That's a lot of recent history for international soccer and obviously the teams aren't the same, but the cultures and styles are readily the same.

Emmanuel Emenike is the guy to watch for Nigeria. He has the ultimate combination of power and speed that could prove to be a major force in this contest against Argentina. Messi might be the most popular player to take the field in this matchup but Emenike has all the talent in the world and should have an impact.

A draw would be nice for both clubs here. Neither team has been pounding the goals in with Argentina logging three tallies and Nigeria placing just one in the back of the net. But that one tally has been enough for them to get four points as they drew their other.

But, with Argentina wanting to presumably get that top spot in the group, we like them to win a close one.
