Entering the NFL season’s final week of the regular season, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson continues to chase a pair of milestones, including one of pro football’s most cherished records.
Through 16 games, Peterson has 1,898 rushing yards, leaving him 102 shy of becoming the seventh running back in NFL history to gain 2,000 yards on the ground in a single season. He’s also chasing the NFL record for rushing yards in a single season – 2,105, set by Eric Dickerson in 1984. Just 208 yards shy of doing so Peterson now faces the Green Bay Packers at 1:25 p.m. PT on Sunday with a potential playoff berth on the line as well for the Vikings, who haven’t reached the postseason since 2009. All the Vikings need to do is win to get in, and Peterson will likely have plenty of say in the game’s outcome.
Peterson had rushed for at least 100 yards in eight straight games entering last Sunday’s game in Houston. In a 23-6 win, he was held to just 86 yards on 25 carries, tying his season low average of 3.4 yards per carry.
