The American League West has two potential great teams, one team that could surprise some people and two that should finish toward the bottom of the league this season. The 2015 Major League Baseball American League West Odds have the Seattle Mariners listed as the favorites to pick up the division crown.

The Mariners signed Robinson Cano last year for a ton of money, a contract most said wasn’t good for the team. Yet, they exceeded expectations and now with more additions look to be the best team in the division. The LA Angels still have arguably the best player in baseball and Oakland once again will look to re-tool the team without spending money. The state of Texas will once again have two of the worst teams in baseball this season in the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers.

Seattle Mariners +120

Additions of Nelson Cruz and Justin Ruggiano are going to pay dividends for the Mariners this season. Seth Smith also comes over from the Padres as Seattle has built itself a team with some depth that also had a great lineup. The Cano-Cruz combination can be huge for them this year, but having a great rotation will be the reason the Mariners win. Felix Hernandez has been a premier starter and Hisashi Iwakuma had a great 2014. Taijuan Walker has been tabbed as the next great Mariners starter and this year should be a breakout campaign.

Los Angeles Angels +170

The Angels won 98 games last season and despite not getting any better with additions in the off-season, they will still be a great team. Josh Hamilton will not be suspended by MLB for his off the field issues, but the Angels are legitimately concerned for him. If he remains on the team and doesn’t have a tough season it will be remarkable. Albert Pujols has to be better for the Angels to be successful, especially if he has to make up for Hamilton missing time. The rotation is solid and a Garrett Richards return to being solid will make them very good.

Oakland Athletics +400

The bullpen is good, the starters will once again exceed expectations in the huge ballpark out there and somehow, despite not really having a ton of threats in the lineup, the As are being tabbed as the third potential team to win the AL West. Then again, sitting in front of Houston and Texas aren’t exactly kind words. Sonny Gray is an excellent talent atop the rotation and the return of Scott Kazmir could be good for the As. Additions of Billy Butler and Ike Davis at the DH/1B position will be pivotal to their season.

Texas Rangers +1200

The Rangers were terrible last season, winning only 67 games. They lose Alex Rios, but they will have Prince Fielder for an entire season so that should help Adrian Beltre continue to hit anything thrown his way. Losing Yu Darvish to Tommy John surgery certainly hurts the rotation, which really has nothing left. The rotation isn’t good, the bullpen is in trouble and they have a lineup that has potential, but they will have to slug themselves to victories this season.

Houston Astros +1800

The Astros could be a team on the rise. They have a ton of youngsters that are only going to continue to get better. The rotation has some journeymen that can eat innings, which puts a big spotlight on the bullpen to keep leads and seal wins.  George Springer is one of the best young talents in the Majors and Jose Altuve could be the best contact hitter in the American League. The Astros are still a year away, though.
