The 2014 World Cup is a handful of days in and we've seen several great teams already take the pitch. Tonight the United States will take on Ghana in the opening match for both teams. Ghana is the favorite over the United States in this matchup based on the teams' recent history. Ghana and the USA have met twice prior in FIFA World Cup matches and both times Ghana eliminated the Americans from contention. Tonight the United States will look to snatch up three points in what should be a well-played contest. With what the Germans did to Portugal earlier today, the three points in this matchup is even more important.
The United States comes in ranked 13th in the FIFA world rankings but Ghana comes in 37th. Neither ranking really means anything and with Ghana being favored in this matchup, we see that the oddsmakers don't care either. There's some redemption here for the United States to obtain with a victory.
There's a lot of pressure on the United States in this one as well. Everyone in the world knows they want to come out and win this match based on previous performances against Ghana, but that also brings a lot of attention. If they aren't able to come away with three points in this match it will certainly be looked at as another disappointment.
A win for either club brings them a huge advantage the rest of the group stage. Both Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore will be major factors in tonight's game. If one of them can find a way to score the Americans are going to be in a good position. The formation Jurgen Klinsmann uses tonight will also be a huge factor in the contest. If the American strikers are able to hang around in a position to score, they hopefully will take advantage.
The Americans seem like that are due to win a match against Ghana and we like them to take care of business tonight. The Germans blasted Portugal earlier today and now the door is open for the United States to pick up three points.
