2014 New York Giants Schedule & Win Total Pick

The New York Giants started last year 0-9, but did finish 7-3 in their last 10 games to give them some momentum and hope for this year. It looks like another mediocre year is in the works for the Giants, but in the watered down NFC East, it does give them a shot at the Division title.  Vegas has the Giants win total set at 8 (O -130… U -Even). Let’s take a quick look at the New York Giants, along with their 2014 Schedule.

Last year the Giant offense was ranked 28th in scoring, at 18.4 ppg, while also ranking 28th in total yards (307.5 ypg), 19th in passing (224.3 ypg) and 29th in rushing (83.3 ypg). It was rather shocking that an Eli Manning led offense could be one of the worst in the league, but that’s exactly what happened last year. Manning did throw 27 interceptions last year and really didn’t have a good year overall, but it wasn’t all his fault, as the OL was a complete mess and the running game was one of the worst in the league. The Giants used their 1 st pick in the draft to grab WR Odell Beckham and that is good because Manning also needs weapons to throw to, and they took Center Weston Richburg with their second pick, which is also good, cause the OL also needs help, but that was it for helping the offense. The OL is still a mess and the running game doesn’t look to be much better either. The Giants still have Victor Cruz, but did lose Hakeem Nicks, who bolted to Indianapolis. New OC Ben McAdoo has his work cut out for, but still I don’t expect this offense to be as bad as last year, even with the OL woes. Some improvement from this group, but still a ways to go before being one of the top offenses in the league again.

Defensively the Giants ranked 18th in points allowed (23.9 ppg), 8th in yards allowed (323.3 ypg), 10th vs the pass (223.3 ypg) and 14th vs the run (108.9 ypg). This was not a bad defense last year and it does shock me that the Giants looks to build the defense, rather than address most of the problems on offense. 4 of the last 5 picks for the Giants were made on the defensive side of the ball, including DT Jay Bromley with the third pick and fifth pick Safety Nate Behre, who both should add solid depth to this defense.  The Giants have great depth at defensive tackle, and the line as a whole will be the strength of this team, even with the loss of leading sack man, Justin Tuck. The Giants did help their linebacking crew with the signing of Jameel McClain and the secondary should solid with some good young talent. This defense should be better than last year.

The Giants have had a penchant for starting slow the last few years before turning it on and finishing strong. They parlayed that into a few superbowl appearances over that last few years, but an 0-6 start last year was too much for them to overcome and while they finished the year 7-3 in their final 10 games, they still sat on the sidelines during the post season. A big problem for the Giants last year was their offense, but I don’t see Eli having as bad a year as he did last year, especially under the tutelage of new OC Ben McAdoo. The offense will improve this year. The Defense does lose Justin Tuck, but they had a solid draft and picking up Jameel McClain will also help, plus there is plenty of returning talent as well. This should be a top 10 defense this year.  The Schedule is tough for this team, but still the NFC East is very week and this team is good enough to win it. I will call for a 9-7 year out of the Giants this year.
