The New Mexico State Aggies are looking to improve upon a 2-10 season last year. The 2014 New Mexico State Aggies Schedule does have some real tough spots, but also has key conference games at home.
The Aggies are led by Doug Martin, who enters his second year as their coach. He will rely heavily on his junior college transfer Tyler Rogers, a quarterback from Arizona Western. He tossed the rock for more than 1,800 yards last season and offers the Aggies a bit of a dual threat, according to reports.
The offensive line isn't bad and does have some solid talent on it. If they can protect Rogers and allow him time to throw the football, the Aggies have some winnable games this season. Playing in the Sun Belt Conference isn't easy as the small league has expanded the past few seasons.
Defensively they bring in Larry Coyer as the coordinator. Coyer spent time in the NFL as the defensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts. Having that experience on the team certainly will be a help and could allow them to get better recruits.
The Aggies haven't been to a bowl game since 1960 and it's not going to be easy to turn them around but Martin believes he can set the foundation. But they have several tough games on the docket, including an unwinnable game at LSU.
