The Georgia Southern Eagles won seven games last season and are looking to improve on that number. The 2014 Georgia Southern Eagles Schedule sees them alternate home and road games most of the season, with no back-to-back home contests all season.
Willie Fritz enters his first season as the coach of Georgia State, a spread-offense guru that led Sam Houston State year after year with high-octane squads. SHS loved to move the football all over the field last season and it's going to be a bit of a change for the fans and players in Statesboro. Last season the Eagles were a triple-option type of offense that saw them rush for better than 3,900 yards, more than any team in the FCS.
But former coach Jeff Monken left for Army, who historically is a triple-option attack as well, so he should have no problems there. Last season the Eagles threw for just over 1,000 yards and that number will obviously be quite a bit more this season. Under Fritz the Bearkats scored an average of 41.1 points per game and went to two FCS title games in his time.
Kevin Ellison will run the offense as a dual-threat QB. Certainly depth at the wide receiver position isn't great but having a quarterback with the ability to run could be beneficial in Fritz' offense.
They have some tough games on the schedule and replicating the seven wins last season could be tough. They walked into Florida last season and took out the Gators, despite not completing a single pass in that game. But now they are in the FBS and playing in the Sun Belt, so it won't be easy.
