Matuszak is one of the longer shots to win the 2014 Belmont Stakes. The 2014 Belmont Stakes Odds currently have Matuszak listed at 30-1 on the morning line, making it tied with Matterhorn as the only horses that high on the odds table.

Matuszak will open the race from the sixth post position. The Bill Mott-trained horse will be ridden by Mike Smith in this race and took second in the Federico Tesio at Pimlico back in mid-April. The horse still hasn't tasted a victory yet, but has been a pretty solid runner for what it's worth.  Matuszak also finished third at Private Terms back in March. Each race was a decent finish for the Belmont longshot even though the fields were not filled with horses of the caliber that will run on Saturday.

It's hard to imagine this horse winning the Belmont Stakes, but stranger things have certainly happened in horse racing. The long odds certainly tell us it's not one of the favorites that is running on Saturday, but with Hall of Famer Smith on board, there might be some magic in the air.

Smith won last year's Belmont Stakes aboard Palace Malice. He also claimed the 2010 Belmont and 2011 Breeders' Cup Classic victories aboard Drosselmeyer, a horse trained by Mott.
