The Arkansas State Red Wolves have played in three straight bowl games and are looking for more this season. The 2014 Arkansas State Red Wolves Schedule features some tough non-conference competition.
The Red Wolves are going to have their fourth coach in four years, which certainly makes their bowl run more impressive. Bryan Harsin, the coach last season, bolted town to take the Boise State position after Gus Malzahn and Hugh Freeze both did the same thing after their only year in Jonesboro. But the school and its fans have to be thankful for the coaches that came before this year's guy in Blake Anderson. Malzahn, Freeze and Harsin combined to win 28 games in their three combined seasons.
Anderson comes over from his offensive coordinator post at North Carolina. He's going to work heavily on getting a quarterback for the Red Wolves, who play tough non-Sun Belt games against Tennessee and Miami in back-to-back weeks. That's certainly tough for any team, let alone one from the Sun Belt. But the Red Wolves believe they can play with both of those schools.
Arkansas State brings back several guys with experience, led by wide receiver J.D. McKissic, who was the 2012 freshman of the year in the conference. He's grabbed 185 passes in his two seasons for the Red Wolves. He caught more than six passes per game last season. He's also an amazing kick returner for the club as well, averaging 30 yards per return last year.
Eight starters are back on defense as well. They are led by Qushaun Lee, who led the conference in tackles last season with 134. All four starters in the secondary are back as well, giving the Red Wolves some valuable experience.
If they can figure out the quarterback position, Arkansas State is going to be just fine this season. They have a lot of talent on the roster and have no problem playing in tough games. We expect them to play in another bowl game this season.
