The 2013 Preakness Stakes Longshots are few as there are only nine horses competing in the race. On Saturday the 2013 Preakness Stakes takes center stage on the sports world and one of the Preakness Stakes Longshots this year is Govenor Charlie. Currently the race has Govenor Charlie Odds listed at 12-1 to win the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Govenor Charlie is one of the longshots in the nine horse Preakness Saturday. This horse had a major foot bruise going on in the middle portion of April and wasn't able to practice running again until the first of May. The injury held Govenor Charlier out of the Kentucky Derby. How much will his absence from training affect the horse in this race here?

The horse won the Sunland Derby in only his third career start. Govenor Charlie has only ran in three starts anyway and has won twice in those three races. Could the best performances for this horse still be ahead of him?

It's a Bob Baffert horse and is considered a nice prospect. The horse was solidly into the Kentucky Derby based on points alone but Baffer wouldn't let the horse run with the foot injury.

Any Baffert-trained horse probably shouldn't have these types of odds, but the horse doesn't have a long list of results as compared to some of the other eight horses in the Preakness.

Preakness Facts: It pays to run in the Kentucky Derby as 12 of the past 80 horses (15 percent) to win the Preakness Stakes ran in the Derby. Rachel Alexandra holds the record to win from the farthest outside post (13th) and was ridden by Calvin Borel to the winner's circle in 2009. Opening day at Pimlico Race Course in 1870 featured the Dinner Party Stakes that was won by a horse named Preakness. In the racetrack's spring meet of 1873, the 3-year-old stakes race was named after him and the rest is history. The first official Preakness was won by Survivor with a 10 length cushion between him and second place. This record win was not topped until 2004 when Smarty Jones took home the title by an amazing 11 lengths.
