2013 North Texas Mean Green Football Schedule, Preview

The 2013 North Texas Football schedule is split evenly with 6 home and 6 road games. Their schedule is highlighted by a trip to national powerhouse Georgia, while overall they will be facing 7 bowl teams from a year ago. Their full schedule is listed below, but first let's preview the 2013 North Texas Mean Green.

North Texas has has now had 8 losing years in a row, which includes last years 4-8 mark. Prior to this slum they had won 4 straight Sun Belt titles. This year they return 17 starters and the coaching staff feels they have a good shot at breaking that 8 year slump.

The offense returns 9 starters from last year and will most certainly be better than last years group that put up just 20.9 ppg. Derek Thompson and Andrew Mcnulty will battle it out for the QB spot and that battle should continue through the preseason. Whoever wins the job will have the luxury of having 5 of the top 6 pass catchers back from a year ago, plus they have added former Texas WR Darrius Terrel. North Texas did have a solid ground attack, churning out 173 ypg on the ground and they will be returning their top 2 RB's from last year. RB Brandin Byrd had 860 yards and 4 TD,s, while RB Antoinne Jimmerson put up 544 yards and 5 TD's. The OL, which was tops in the country in sacks allowed (6) will be very solid again with 4 starters from that group returning.

Last season the Mean Green allowed 27.8 ppg, which was 3 ppg less than they allowed in 2011, and with 8 starters back this year you should see even more improvements from that side of the ball. The Mean Green will return six players that have experience along the offensive line, plus they will return all 4 starters to their secondary. The LB corps will return their two best players in Zachary Orr and Derek Akunne. Overall this group returns 21 of 24 lettermen and their top 6 tacklers from last year, which has me expecting this to be their best defense in years.

North Texas should be an improved team on both sides of the ball this year. They have plenty of depth on defense and shoud allow 24 ppg or less this year, while the offense has a proven running game and OL, but should be a bit more balanced with solid QB play, whoever wins the battle. I look for a 5 win season at the most for this team this year, but they are on the right track back. Key Trends: 12-0 ATS off BB SU wins vs an opponent off a SU win1-8 ATS in first of BB home games... 6-1 ATS at home vs an opponent off a SU fav loss.
