The Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints will mix it up this evening as the two squads open their respective preseason schedules at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Tonight's exhibition clash between the Chiefs and Saints is scheduled to kickoff at 8:00pm ET. 2013 NFL Preseason Odds from offshore bookmaker 5Dimes have New Orleans listed as a -3 against the spread and -165 money line favorite ($165 wins $100); the Over/Under is set at 36.5 points. The Chiefs are drawing a +145 money line ($100 wins $145) to win tonight's contest.

Tonight will be a big one for both Kansas City and New Orleans. The Chiefs have a new coaching staff and a new head coach in Andy Reid and they also have a new quarterback in Alex Smith. The Saints, meanwhile, welcome back Head Coach Sean Payton, who missed all of last season after being suspended for the bounty gate scandal.

Reid has indicated that Smith and the rest of the Kansas City starters with play about a quarter this evening, and he also suggest the game plan will be extremely limited. Those two things would seemingly put the Chiefs, who have been a dreadful preseason team the last few years, in line for another exhibition dud.

However, KC may be more ready for their preseason opener than most clubs. Reid is unusual in that he has his players hitting and tackling to the ground in training camp. Given that, the Chiefs players may be more physically primed for 'real' football.

The Saints should have the emotional edge, though, at least early on as the New Orleans crowd should be pumped for Payton's return. The team played valiantly last season in his absence, but it clearly missed its off the field leader.
