Both the Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Rams will attempt to bounce back from ugly preseason openers when they meet at Edward Jones Dome this weekend. Saturday's 2013 NFL Preseason showdown between the Packers and Rams is scheduled to get underway at 8:00pm ET. The hosting Rams are favored at -4.5 against the spread and -210 on the money line ($210 wins $100). Green Bay is drawing +175 odds ($100 wins $175) and the Over/Under is coming in at 40.5 points.
Most pundits expect the Packers to be in the mix of NFC Super Bowl contenders, but they looked more like a Pop Warner club last Friday in Arizona. Green Bay fell 0-17 to the Cardinals as its offense proved almost completely useless after the departure of Aaron Rodgers (3-of-5 for 62 yards).
The poor showing would usually signal a rebound performance is in order, but this is still the preseason and the Packers, given all their injury woes, are probably more concerned about staying healthy than winning meaningless games.
St. Louis should have every opportunity to take advantage of Green Bay's exhibition malaise on Saturday evening. The Rams, unlike the Packers, are not a proven commodity, so this contest should hold more significance for them.
St. Louis posted some decent numbers (396 yards, 8.2 yards per pass) in last week's 19-27 loss at Cleveland, but they were overshadowed by three turnovers and a number of dropped passes.
Head Coach Jeff Fisher, who owns a 34-33 preseason record (35-31-3 ATS), will demand a more crisp outing from his squad this week.
