With the start of the 2013 baseball season just around the corner, Sportsbook.ag has put together its list of top candidates to hit the most regular season home runs. 2013 MLB Prop Bets at the offshore book maker have Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton listed as a +500 favorite ($100 wins $500) to lead the league in long balls this year. Toronto’s Jose Bautista, a two-time home run champion, is a second pick to Stanton at +600 odds. Third on the list is last year’s American League MVP and Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera, who is drawing +800 odds to repeat as home run champion.
Giancarlo Stanton (+500): Despite missing 39 games, Stanton hit a career high 37 home runs last year (third major league season). If he stays healthy there is no doubt Stanton has both the power and ability to lead the majors in home runs.
Jose Bautista (+600): Bautista’s power stroke seemingly came out of nowhere when he led the league with 54 home runs in 2010. The Dominican native had never hit more than 16 home runs in a season prior to that breakout campaign. Bautista validated his slugger status the next year by hitting 43 balls over the fence. As with Stanton, health could be an issue with Bautista as well. The nine year veteran missed 70 games last year with a wrist injury.
Miguel Cabrera (+800): Durability is not a question with Cabrera, who has played in at least 150 games in each of the last nine seasons. Power, obviously, is not a problem either as Cabrera blasted a career high 44 home runs last year to lead the league.
