Unlimited Budget, the daughter of 2007 Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, will attempt to become the fourth filly to win the Belmont Stakes when the final leg of the Triple Crown Series concludes on Saturday. The horse, one of five Todd Pletcher trained entries in tomorrow’s race, is one of three Belmont runners drawing a +800 moneyline in the latest 2013 Belmont Odds.
Unlimited Budget had never lost going into the 2013 Kentucky Oaks, making her one of the favorites (11 to 2 odds) to win the 1 1/8 miles race. She came up short in the Grade 1 event, but finished on the board, taking third behind Princess of Sylmar and Beholder.
Prior to her run at Churchill Downs, Unlimited Budget took first in her maiden race as well as the Demoiselle Stakes (G2), Rachel Alexandra Stakes (G3), and the Fair Grounds Oaks Stakes (G2). She has not raced since the Kentucky Oaks.
New Jersey native Rosie Napravnik will serve as Unlimited Budget’s jockey in tomorrow’s Belmont. Napravnik guided the filly to victory in their only previous race together, the Rachel Alexandra Stakes. The 25 year old Napravnik rode Mylute in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, and she will become the first female jockey to race all three Triple Crown races in the same year when her and Unlimited Budget jump from Post 13 tomorrow.
Napravnik raced in her first Belmont Stakes last year; she rode Five Sixteen to a fifth place finish in her “Test of the Champion” debut.
Unlimited Budget’s trainer, Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher, will chase his second Belmont victory on Saturday. Pletcher’s only previous Belmont win came in 2007 with filly Rags to Riches.
The 2013 Belmont Stakes will take place on Saturday, June 8th at the Belmont Race Track in Elmont, New York. The Triple Crown event is scheduled to get underway at 5:00pm ET and will be broadcast live on the NBC and the NBC Sports Network.
