Wimbledon, the third of the four major tennis tournaments to be played, will begin on Monday morning from the All England Club in Wimbledon, London where they have been playing the same tournament since 1877. It is generally regarded as the hardest one to capture. The tournament is played entirely on grass and takes two full weeks to complete, as all four of the majors do. The 2012 Wimbledon Start Time is set for 6:30 a.m. EST Monday morning and it will be televised live nationally on ESPN2. Currently the 2012 Wimbledon Odds have Novak Djokovic favored in the gentlemen's draw while Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova are favored in the ladies draw.
Williams and Sharapova both have odds of 11/4, which essentially pays out just over 3.75/1 if they are able to win the tournament. Djokovic is the overall favorite in the gentlemen's draw, as he is widely considered the best player on the world for a grass surface. However, Roger Federer will also be going for a seventh Wimbledon title this season and he has played very well this season. Federer most likely will have a lot to say about the final outcome of the tournament this season. He probably has the best overall draw of the "Big 4" players, who are pretty much all picked to make the semifinals of Wimbledon this season. And why shouldn't they? The four are the best players in the world and have proven it again and again. That probably will continue in this tournament.
Last year, Marion Bartoli knocked out Williams in the round of 32 in straight sets. Bartoli is an incredibly good grass player, much like Williams was a few years ago. Now, we aren't saying Williams still isn't a player that can compete at a high level, but I don't think she's the same player she used to be. She is going to be a major factor in this tournament, but I don't think she's going to win. Serena is considered one of the two favorites in this tournament, but her road to the semifinals isn't easy and it will take a full mindset of wanting to win for her to get there. I'm still not convinced she's as sold on tennis as she used to be.
