2012 SEC Football Championship Odds: Alabama Favored

College football’s most celebrated conference, the SEC, will have a decidedly different look this season as Big 12 transplants Missouri and Texas A&M debut in the powerhouse league. The odds makers are not expecting a big splash from the newcomers, though, as the latest 2012 SEC Championship Odds have West Division rivals Alabama and LSU listed as +185 and +200 (risk $100 to win $200) favorites to win the conference.

West Division Favorite(s)

Alabama Crimson Tide (+185): The Tide rolled to a 12-1 record last season and they avenged their only loss by thumping LSU 21-0 in the BCS National Championship Game. Head Coach Nick Saban brings back 41 letterman from last year’s championship team, but he also loses 23, including defensive starters Dont’a Hightower, Mark Barron, DeQuan Menzkie, Dre Kirkpatrick, and Courtney Johnson.

LSU Tigers (+200): Tigers Head Coach Les Miles has a similar problem to Saban in that LSU lost 25 lettermen from last season’s 13-1 team; however, the talent pipeline is always open in Baton Rouge. Miles has 13 starters back and top ranked recruiting class that includes nine four star prospects (Rivals.com).

East Division Favorite

Georgia Bulldogs (+500): Bulldogs Head Coach Mark Richt entered last season with the school winning a combined 14 games in 2009 and 2010. Georgia preserved Richt’s job, though, by posting a 10-4 record that included wins Florida, Auburn, and Georgia Tech. With 54 lettermen, including 15 starters, back in Athens, the Bulldogs should further secure Richt’s standing this season. At +500 odds (risk $100 to win $500), Georgia is a prohibitive favorite to win the SEC’s East Division and challenge for the conference championship.
