2012 Olympics Opening Ceremonies Start Time

The 2012 Summer Olympics get underway on Friday and run through August 12. The 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremonies Start Time is scheduled for Friday night at 9 p.m. local time in London and 4 p.m. EST in the United States. The ceremonies will be televised on NBC beginning at 7 p.m. EST.

More than 205 countries will take place in this year's 2012 Summer Olympics held in London, England. The 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremonies will be called "The Isles of Wonder." Four years ago, Beijing was noted for having arguably the best opening ceremonies of all time, spending a great deal of money and being very elaborate. Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle is in charge of this year's opening ceremonies artistic design.

The London Games will be officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. In addition, Sir Paul McCartney will perform at the close of the ceremony. The Parade of Nations will also take place, as it has in every single Olympics prior to the 2012 London Summer Games. According to the Olympic custom, Greece will lead the parade, followed by other competing countries in alphabetical order and finally the host nation of Great Britain.

The official song of this year's Olympic Games is "Survival", a single released by the English band Muse. The song is scheduled to be broadcast when all of the Olympic athletes enter the stadium for Opening Ceremonies and in the period before all of the medal ceremonies at the games. In addition, it is being reported that the international broadcasters will be playing it while reporting on the games from London.

The United States is figured to win the most Olympic Gold Medals this year at the games. In fact, it's even something that can be wagered on across the globe. Per Olympic Betting Odds, the United States are listed at a -400 (Risk $400 to win $100) favorite to have collected the most Olympic Medals at the end of the games.

2012 Olympics Odds: Overall Medals

China +500
Russia +1000
