2012 Olympics Men’s Singles Tennis Start Time, Odds and Picks

In what amounts to an extra Grand Slam tournament, the 2012 Olympics Men’s Singles Tennis competition will get underway on Saturday, July 28th (6:30am ET start time). 2012 Olympics Tennis Odds and Picks at are favoring Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, currently the ATP’s second ranked player, to win the gold medal. Djokovic is drawing +145 odds ($100 to win $145) to best the Olympic field while top ranked Roger Federer is a second pick at +200 odds ($100 to win $200). Great Britain’s Andy Murray is listed at +605 odds as a third gold medal selection. Spain’s Rafael Nadal, who won the gold at the 2008 Olympics, withdrew from the London games earlier this month with a knee injury.

Novak Djokovic suffered more than one setback when he lost to Roger Federer in the Wimbledon semi-finals. The Serb saw his streak of four straight Grand Slam finals appearances come to an end and he also slipped from the ATP’s top spot, a position he had held since July 1st of 2011. Despite those developments, Djokovic is expected to experience a more successful foray at the Wimbledon (the All England Club will host Olympic tennis) during the Olympics.

With Nadal out of the picture, Djokovic’s biggest adversaries figure to be Federer and Britain’s Andy Murray. Federer, who regained his once familiar spot atop the ATP’s rankings with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 Wimbledon Finals victory over Murray, owns a 15-12 career record opposite Djokovic; however, Djokovic is 6-2 in their last eight meetings.

Murray is 5-8 in 13 career meetings with Djokovic and 8-8 in 16 showings against Federer, but the Brit has not fared well against either player of late. Murray is just 1-5 in his last six matches with Djokovic and Federer.

While Djokovic is the favorite, Federer is the tournament’s top seed. He will face Colombia’s Alejandro Falla in the opening round while Djokovic, who won the bronze medal in Beijing, squares off against Italy’s Fabio Fognini.

The top eight seeds are as follows: Roger Federer (Switzerland), Novak Djokovic (Serbia), Andy Murray (Great Britain), David Ferrer (Spain), Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (France), Tomas Berdych (Czech Republic), Janko Tipsarevic (Serbia), and Juan Martin Del Potro (Argentina).
