2012 Olympics Basketball: USA vs. France Start Time, Odds and Picks

USA Basketball begins its quest for another gold medal on Sunday, July 29th when it faces fellow Group A squad France. Start time in the preliminary round contest is scheduled for 9:30am ET. 2012 Olympics Basketball USA vs. France Odds and Picks have the United States, which is a prohibitive 1/10 favorite ($1000 to win $100) to win the gold, listed as a -24.5 against the spread favorite. The game total for tomorrow morning’s contest is set at 168 points.

The United States experienced only one hiccup in training and exhibition play in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic games. Team USA mowed through the Dominican Republic (113-59), Brazil (80-69), Great Britain (118-78), and Spain (110-78), but it just slipped past Argentina, a team it beat 101-81 in the semifinals of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 86-80.

Despite that near miss, the United States team is not expected to falter in London. Its star studded roster, which features 2008 Olympians Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, and Deron Williams as well as new additions in Tyson Chandler, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Andre Iguodala, and Kevin Love, should ensure another gold medal run.

France, which is drawing +2000 odds ($100 to win $2000) to win the gold, did not qualify for the Beijing Games, but is considered one of the better squads in London. The French team has its own share of NBA talent, including starters Ronny Turiaf, Boris Diaw, Nicolas Batum, and Tony Parker. France placed second to Spain at the 2011 European Championships, posting a 9-2 record in the 24 team competition. Parker, who is recovered from an eye injury, led the team with a 22.1 points per game average.

Team USA defeated its 2008 Olympic competition by an average of 27.9 points per game, and it will win this game; however, France has enough talent to keep this contest around the 20 point mark.

2012 Olympics Basketball USA vs. France Odds:

USA -24.5 (-110), Over 168 (-110)

France +24.5 (-110), Under 168 (-110)
