French Open Men's Semifinals Novak Djokovic vs Ernest Gulbis Start Time, Odds

The French Open has reached the Men's Semifinals stage and both matches will take place on Friday morning. Novak Djokovic and Ernests Gulbis will face off in the first of the two matches, which is scheduled for a 7:10 a.m. (EST) start time and it will be televised nationally on Tennis Channel. Currently the odds for the match have Djokovic as a heavy favorite to reach the finals.

French Open Semifinal Odds

Ernests Gulbis +6 -101 +575 Ov 37 -101 Ov 16½ -120 Un 16½ -110
Novak Djokovic -6 -115 -750 Un 37 -115 Ov 21 -120 Un 21 -110

Ernests Gulbis is a very solid tennis player, but not many could have predicted he'd make it this far at Roland Garros. The 18th seed knocked off Lukasz Kubot in the opening round and has motored his way into the Final Four by knocking off Facundo Bagnis and Radek Stepanek early in the tournament. Then, Gulbis showed his prowess by beating Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych in back-to-back matches to reach the semifinals. Federer was seeded fourth while Berdych was the sixth seed in this year's tournament. Gulbis has won six straight matches overall against seeded opponents in Grand Slams.

This will be Gublis' first Grand Slam semifinal matchup, so it will be interesting to see how he handles the pressure. The 25-year-old from Latvia has a 1-4 lifetime record against Novak Djokovic.

Nobody is surprised Djokovic is playing in this match. Djokovic is widely considered to be the best men's tennis player on the planet, but he's never won a title at Roland Garros. Two years ago Djokovic met and fell to Rafael Nadal in the 2012 French Open finals in four sets. If Djokovic is able to knock off Gulbis in this matchup he'll more than likely take on Nadal again in the finals. That 2012 loss in the Roland Garros finals was the best finish for the No. 1 player in the world at Roland Garros.

Gulbis is a very skilled offensive player. Djokovic is arguably the best defensive player in the game, finding a way to break down his opponents into making mistakes and then capitalizing on those miscues. In several of his matches getting to this point, Gulbis was able to win with easy or free points against his opponents, which is something that Djokovic just doesn't do. Gulbis has had a very nice run to this point in the tournament, but it's probably going to come to an end here in the semifinals.

We like Djokovic to win the match as he's an obvious heavy favorite, but we think he'll be able to get the job done in three sets.
