TERMINOLOGY AND BETTING TIPS NOT INCLUDED ABOVE

TIP 1:  When making a  box  bet you don't tell the clerk the total of all the bets in the box, you tell the clerk the amount of each single bet. For example if you say, "Give me a $2 box on Horse A & B you will the equivalent of a $2 bet on the A-B exacta and a $2 bet on the B-A exacta, for a total cost of $4.  If you said instead, "Give me a $4 box," you will get two $4 exactas and your total cost will be $8.

Here the total cost of $2 Exacta and $2 Triple boxes based on the number of horses in the box
Exacta Box    $2 Bet    Triple Box    $2 Bet
2 horses         4.00    N/A
3 Horses    12.00    3 Horses    12.00
4 Horses    24.00    4 Horses    48.00
5 Horses    40.00    5 Horses    120.00
6 Horses    60.00    6 Horses    240.00

TIP 2: In any race that has a quinella, always bet the quinella for $4 instead of a $2 exacta box costing the same $4.  The quinella automatically gives you the horses in any order and it will pay more than exacta at least 75% of the time.  It doesn't matter how many horses you box, simply ask for a $4 quinella if you are combining more than 2 horses, instead of a $2 exacta box.

TIP 3:  A "Part Wheel" includes some but not all of the possible horses in all of the available spots in an exotic bet.  For example in daily double part wheel taking the #1 and #2 horses in the first race with the #4 and #6 in the second race you would say "Give me a $2 daily double part wheel on the 1-2 over the 4-6.  You would have 4 daily double bets consisting of all combinations of the 1 & 2 in the first race with the 4 & 6 in the second.  If either the 1 or 2 wins in the first and either the 4 or 6 wins in the second, you collect..

TIP 4:  A "Key Box" is a bet in which you key one horse for first with all combinations of the other horses you like for second and third in the case of a triple, or for second, third and fourth in the case of superfecta.  For example, suppose you believe Big Brown will win, and you think that the # 2,3,4 horses will finish behind him but you aren't sure in what order.  You would say, "Give me a $2 Triple key with the #6 keyed over the 2-3-4.  You would get six triple bets with the #6 to win and the 2-3-4 boxed underneath in all combinations for third and fourth.  The total cost would be $12.

WARNING:  DO NOT USE THE HORSE NUMBERS ON THIS PAGE FOR BETTING PURPOSES.

The program gives the Morning Line odds.  The Morning Line is simply a guideline guess by the track Racing Secretary.  You can't bet based on the Morning Line.  The odds are based on the total amount bet by the public on each horse.  The odds keep changing until the race starts.  You get the final odds, not the odds of the horse when you bet it.

WHERE TO GET REAL TIME ODDS

The board displaying the constantly changing odds is called the "Tote Board."  It is very important that you not bet blindly.  To be successful you must have some idea of the payoff for each bet. You can get instantaneous real-time odds and payoffs direct from Belmont Park by Clicking Here.   On the left under the Heading "Handicapping" click the link titled "Toteboard."

Belmont is an advantageous place to bet because the track take on most bets is the lowest in the entire country, and therefore the payout on winning bets is higher than it would be anywhere else.  On Win, Place, and Show bets the track take is only 15%.  On exactas, daily doubles and quinellas the take is a mere 17.5%.

WHERE TO FIND RESULTS.

You can get the results of each race direct from the track HERE.
