5/26 NBA Playoff Report

It?s time for our weekly playoff report as we are now halfway through the Conference Finals. After a less than enthralling second round of NBA Playoff Betting, it sure looks like we are in for a pair of outstanding (and long) series here in this round. As of this writing, the Orlando Magic lead the Cleveland Cavaliers two games to one in the East while the Denver Nuggets and LA Lakers are tied at two games apiece out West.

At the time of our last report, both the Cavs and Nuggets had yet to lose a single game ATS in these playoffs, with each owning just a push on their respective resumes. That has changed with Cleveland opening up the Eastern Conference Finals 0-3 against the spread and Denver failing to cash Game 3 in the West.

The first three games of the Western Conference all went Under the total before we cashed our #1 Totals Play on the Over in Game Four, which snapped a seven-game Under streak for the Lakers. We cashed our 20* Eastern Conference Total of the Month in Game One of that particular series when Cleveland and Orlando went Over the total, something they also did in Game Two. Game Three in Orlando marked the first time Under bettors were able to cash. Under bettors now hold a distinct 41-32 advantage in the 2009 NBA Playoffs.

We once again rehash the fact that way back when we started doing these playoff reports, we told you not to buy into the hype of playoff home team dominance. Want further proof? So far, there have been 14 series played in the playoffs. In seven of the Game One?s, the home team has lost outright! Remember, because the Game One home team always has the better record, that meant all seven of those losses occurred when those teams were favored!

Remember that in Round 2, hosts went just 15-8 Straight Up, with three of those losses coming in the Boston/Orlando series. So far, there has not been a single series that has gone without at least one win by a road team. Only four have gone without multiple road wins and one of those is the yet to be completed Cleveland/Orlando series, which could change tonight.

One of the most stunning things as it pertains to Second Round Playoff betting was that the SU winner of the games went 21-0-2 ATS. That has not been the case in the Conference Finals, as through seven games the SU winner has failed to cover twice; Game 2 of Cle/Orl and Game One of LAL/Den. Overall, the underdog has cashed in five of the seven games.

We?ll be back next week with a preview of the NBA Finals. David Stern hopes that we will be talking Cavs vs. Lakers.

Good luck, Lenny.
