Chicago Sky @ Minnesota Lynx (6:00PM CST)
My Pick: Chicago Sky +15 (-115)
These two teams have a big difference in rest going all the way back to June 29th. Since then, Minnesota has played every game on just one day of rest. Tonight, they'll be playing on no rest before finally getting a couple of days off. As for Chicago, tonight they'll be playing on six days of rest. This will be Chicago's first game since June 29th, but it will be Minnesota's fourth.
I believe Minnesota will be worn down tonight. Through the span of four games which they've played since June 29th, the Lynx first beat the Sun by almost 40 points. Next, they lost straight up to the Fever in the Commissioner's Cup, followed by a 17 point win against Washington, and then a win by just 11 against Golden State yesterday. Teams playing non-conference opponents as a home favorite on no rest are 1-1 SU (50.0%) and 0-2 ATS (0%) when they had just one day of rest before each of their previous two games. When teams had just one day of rest before each of their previous three games, they've gone 0-1 SU (0%) and 0-1 ATS (0%). In fact, teams playing non-conference opponents as a home favorite of more than -10 while on no rest are 0-2 SU (0%) and 0-2 ATS (0%). Since the 2022 season, teams have also gone 1-3 SU (75.0%) and 0-4 ATS (0%) playing non-conference opponents as a home favorite after winning their previous game as a home favorite. Those teams have lost each of the last three straight up.
On the other side, Chicago should be well rested coming into this game. They've covered the spread in each of their last four while winning two of the last three straight up. The Sky are 3-1 ATS (75.0%) playing road games on six days of rest, and that includes another game against the Lynx with a similar line (+14.5). In general, teams have performed well playing non-conference/non-daytime games when they're a road underdog on six days of rest. They've gone 10-4 ATS (71.4%) overall with Eastern Conference teams specifically going an almost perfect 7-1 ATS (87.5%). Teams are also a perfect 2-0 SU (100.0%) and 2-0 ATS (100.0%) playing non-conference games as a road underdog on six days of rest when they won their previous game as an underdog.
Minnesota is a tough team to beat this season - they're 15-3 overall and 9-1 at home. Even with some fatigue, it won't be easy for the Sky to go out and win this game straight up. However, I do think we're getting a lot of points to back a well rested team that's been playing good lately and will be facing a team that's had a lot going on over the past week (Commissioner's Cup & a tough matchup against Golden State last night). With that in mind, I'll be taking the points with Chicago tonight.
