Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race—FREE Pick
JRO and Twill are looking to keep the winning going and make it 3 in a row this weekend as the series takes on the Bristol Night Race. With just 3 races to go before the playoffs start the tension is increasing for drivers trying make the playoffs or for better positioning in the points standings for playoff ranking.
After analyzing the speed charts from the two practice sessions and qualifying the FREE pick for the week is the driver of # 12 Penske Ford, Ryan Blaney (18/1). Blaney is 9th in points and the 1st driver in the standings that does not have a win this season. He would love nothing more than to get a win after being overshadowed by teammates Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano that have 5 wins collectively.
In the 1st practice session, he was the 6th fastest for one lap runs. On 5 lap consecutive runs he was 5th fastest and on 10 lap runs he was 19th quickest.
In final practice, Blaney made great improvement from the 1st session and had the 2nd fastest lap behind that of Matt DiBendetto. When looking at the consecutive lap runs, Blaney was the fastest for 5, 10, and 15 lap runs, along with the 2nd fastest on the 20 lap run. He did encounter a little drama toward the end of the session when his power-steering pump exploded sending him to the garage for a replacement. In qualifying, he posted the 12th fastest lap for Saturday’s race. Based on these longer-run practice speeds, Ryan could be the one who parks it in victory lane on Saturday night! If he does take the checkers that would mean a big payout for people who take action on him!
The green flag waves for the race shortly after 7:30 eastern on Saturday night. It is sure to be a race with a lot of on track fireworks.
