Thoughts:
SEA-PIT: Pens on fire and with Grubauer away and Jarry at home, I expect goals and a solid Pens win.
NJD-TBL: Gillies is 1-3-0 with a 3.08 GA/G and .900 SV%. In his previous starts he lost 5-1 to DAL (1/25) and 3-2 to LAK (1/23) but won against CAR 7-4 (1/22), which were all at home. He is now on the road against the high powered Lightning and excellent Vasilevskiy.
CAR-OTT: Sens plain scare me to be honest. Yes Sens are 6-10 at home and Canes are 14-5-1 away. Andersen is much better than Murray, but Murray has won his past three of four starts. The Canes ML is too rich and the PL might not be a guarantee. If the Canes were at home it would be different. But I expect a high scoring game so I'll take the better odds at -125 and go over 6 goals.
VGK-FLA: Panthers at home! But wait, Knight is confirmed in net and not Bobrovsky. Knight did play well his last game but I've been burned by him before, and Vegas can score. Florida also scores a million goals per game. I'll take the over 6.5 goals and the Panthers to win in regulation, but it could be close.
NYR-CLB: I'll take Mr. Igor Sheshterkin over just about anyone right now. Rangers are 19-2 as the favorite and 15-8-2 away. They've also won five of their past six games, and Igor has won his past seven in a row. The Blue Jackets are very disappointing right now and have lost three in a row and four of five. The Flames just blew them out 6-0. This team is battered and the Rangers will win handily. -200 for ML is too rich so I'll take the NYR 60-min ML for -135, with a play on the -1.5 PL for plus odds at +120.
ANA-MTL: Stolarz has lost his past three starts so there is some concern there. But what better opponent to snap that losing streak against? Primeau has been horrible and is 1-4-1 with a 4.32 GA/A and .889 SV%. Fade him! He's allowed 5, 3, and 4 goals his past three starts. The Ducks played well their past three games, beating the Lightning and Bruins and keeping it close with the Leafs. I expect a solid win from them tonight.
LAK-NYI: Islanders play well at home. The Kings have the better offense and the Islanders have the better defense. The Kings have not been playing well lately and the Islanders have, but they have been beating up on bad teams. The Kings are the underdog but the better team here, and I'll take the better odds and for them to have a good bounce back performance.
CGY-STL: Yes the Flames did just beat the Blues 7-1 on Monday. Binnington started and let in six goals and then Husso finished with a 13 for 13 performance. We all know Husso is the better goaltender right now. So Binnington is expected to start? The Blues have only lost consecutive games once since the end of November. And now they are at home. What a better time for revenge. The Flames are on a back-to-back having played in Columbus last night. The Blues have rested since Monday. The Blues have been playing well and are 16-4-2 at home and 18-3 as the favorite. The Flames have just won three of their past eight games. Meanwhile the Blues have won six of their past eight games. I'm backing the Blues at home here.
VAN-WPG: The Canucks are having protocol issues so DiPietro is expected in net. He lost his first start of the season on Sunday against the Blues 3-1. Either way, the Canucks have been playing very tough hockey and they are responding to their new coach well. Even though they have lost their past three games they have all been pretty close, and against good teams. The Jets continue to disappoint and even with their talent they still can't compete for a division title. They have now lost five in a row. Both teams are not high scorers and have middle of the pack defenses. I like the Canucks in this spot but I feel safer with the under 5.5 goals.
NSH-EDM: Talk about rollercoasters for both of these teams! The Preds started January winning four games in a row and then lost four games in a row and now have won three games in a row. So that means they will win this one to make it four, right? Meanwhile we have the Oilers who have completely lost their game and lost seven in a row before winning two now. The Oilers do have an advantage on offense but the Preds have the much better defense. Both teams have their number one goaltenders starting, and both played this past Tuesday and Saturday. But Saros has the much better numbers than Koskinen. The Preds have played well away from home and I think they take revenge upon McDavid, Draisaitl & Co. for their home loss to them back on November 3rd. Give me the better team and better odds.
