Last year was my first year betting baseball and I remember hearing someone on vsin (I think it was Gil Alexander) laughing about a -300 something favourite and he was basically saying that in today's age, nobody in MLB should be a -300 fav. And then I saw this line today I and I was like wtf!

I agree slightly. Almost never in baseball or hockey should a team be a -300 favorite or greater but if you look at the odds as percentages and not as odds it doesn't look that bad. If A team is -300 and you convert that to a percentage its 75% to break even. I could see the best team with their ace pitching beating the worst team in baseball 75% of the time. So -300 isn't out of this world crazy but once you start getting to -680 your break even point is almost 90%. I would never bet anyone in hockey or baseball to win 9 out of 10. To much unpredictability in both sports.....especially baseball.
